Band biography
The Same Latitude As Rome is musical collective of award winning songwriters and multi talented musicians based in Canada’s most southerly area, Essex County, geographically speaking, the same latitude as Rome. The music can be broadly defined as folk, and encompasses roots, blues, country and rock elements. The songs are always topical, gritty, evocative and narrative based. The core line up of musicians includes: Peter Boyer (guitar, vocals, harmonica), Anneke McCabe (keyboards, vocals, djembe, drums, trumpet), Christine Scholtz (guitar, vocals, percussion) Heather Boyer (guitar, vocals, percussion), Bart Lavis (guitar, vocals, drums), Chris Martin (acoustic and electric bass) and Jeff Meloche (drums, percussion). The band also features various guest artists (friends) on recording sessions and at performances, notably, Pierre Cormier (electric bass), Besnik Yzeiri (violin) and Mike McAvan (guitar).
Taken together, SLAR musicians have an extensive recording and performance experience which includes writing songs for a Dan Aykroyd theatre production “Tom Paine” as well as major radio and television appearances and radio air play.
SLAR has produced 3 CDs to date, “Northern Saloons and Community Halls” – 2007, “Which Side Of The Line Are You On?” – 2008, and “The Faerie Queen and Other Stories” – 2009.
Besnik Yzeiri (violin)
Besnik is a highly skilled, classically trained violinist who is a member of the Windsor Symphony. He is also music teacher and plays in small jazz combos in the Windsor/Detroit area. He played with SLAR on two songs of their most current release “Faerie Queen and Other Stories” – on the title track “The Faerie Queen” and also “Leavin’”. Besnik can play anything on the violin in all styles, and he is delight to have as a member of SLAR whenever he has time to join us!
